and layering of colors and textures,” he says.
“Plants have to serve a purpose, not just be
pretty on their own.” Rita, more knowledgeable
about plants, helped parlay Doug’s artistic-
vision into specific choices. The result of their
teamwork is a garden of stunning botanical
interplay, where Doug and Rita can come home
to get away from it all.
“It’s a pleasure to entertain friends and see
them use the garden,” says Doug, “but the
privacy and sanctuary is the real benefit.”
